Vargas Family Says Thank You

Dear RMHC Bay Area Supporter,

This year’s Live, Life, Lunch event brought together style makers and rule breakers like you and Celebrity Chef Cat Cora to help 134 families each night stay close to their sick children and the care they need.

160 attendees listened to Alicia and her husband Rodolfo share their story. Their baby Michael was born on August 26th this year with a rare birth defect, CDH, and underwent extensive surgery at just four weeks old.

“I was given no hope for Michael to live long after birth,” Alicia shared. “He is now stable, but still has a long journey to go at the hospital. And this is where Ronald McDonald House Charities Bay Area has been such a huge support to me and my family.”

Thanks to Live, Life, Lunch supporters, we are $150,000 closer to our goal of preparing 140,000 warm and nourishing meals this year, which helps Alicia and Rodolfo regain a few moments of normalcy each day as they juggle caring for Michael’s sisters, Melody and Ariel, post-surgical appointments, long hours in the NICU, travel, medical bills, and the burden of constant worry about Michael’s life. Finding time to shop, cook, clean, and spend time around the dinner table can be impossible without help—which is why your support means so much.

Couldn’t attend? There’s still time to donate to our Friend-A-Family Fund and help Alicia, Rodolfo, Melody, and Ariel and 8,000 other caregivers and children at our Ronald McDonald Houses this year by providing them with food and a community to lean on.

And I think everyone feels a little better about pizza Fridays after lunching with our favorite culinary style maker and rule breaker Cat Cora. We shared hilarious and heartwarming moments together thanks to Emmy-winning reporter Kate Scott and Reggie Aqui, anchor for ABC7 Mornings and Midday Live—our returning emcees (and best friends according to Reggie). And hearing Alicia and Rodolfo’s story left us all inspired to do more.

Today, I am so full of gratitude for you and our entire RMHC community. Cat’s advice to “stay strong, fierce, and vulnerable” is particularly meaningful when I think about what it takes to care for thousands of families who need us each year.

Thank you for making Live, Life, Lunch memorable and for all you do to support our families at RMHC Bay Area.

With gratitude,

Laura Boudreau
Interim Chief Executive Officer
